Thank you for your interest in Rappahannock River Campground (RRC). We hope this brief synopsis of who we are and what we offer answers all of your questions (and piques your interest). We look forward to seeing you this season.

CALL 1-800-784-7235 TO RESERVE YOUR 2008 ADVENTURE!

Canoeing and Kayaking

The Rappahannock River is in a natural setting, virtually unchanged by civilization.  It flows through Civil War Battlefields, abandoned 18th century gold mines, and ruins of an early 1800s canal system.  The scenery is a breathtaking sight you'll never forget.  Trips depart at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.  Cost is $28.00 per person.

Kelly's Ford to Rappahannock River Campground

Our most popular trip, perfect for those wanting a full day on the river.  This trip is 11 miles in length, averages 5 to 6 hours to complete, and has class I and class II rapids.

Snake Castle Rock to Rappahannock River Campground

We refer to this trip as our "fisherman's float," because it passes thru some of the best fishing spots on the river.  This trip is 3 miles in length, averages 2 to 3 hours to complete, (although most fishermen take the full day) and has class I and class II rapids.

Reservations are required. Key weekends are filling up -- call soon!

Tubing

Our tubing trip features class I and II rapids, takes about 4 hours, and costs $17.00 per person.

Shuttles leave at 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 pm. Check-in is required 30 minutes prior to departure.   RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED

We no longer provide nor do we transport personal cooler tubes.  Beverages may be taken in a small cooler which will sit on your lap.

PRICES INCLUDE LIFE JACKET, PADDLE, BOAT OR TUBE, SHUTTLE, PRE-TRIP SAFETY INSTRUCTION, AND A RIVER MAP, (BUT NOT TAXES).

GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE!

Due to the inherent dangers of water-related activities, all participants must:

  • Be able to swim and be at least 6 years old
  • Wear secure shoes while on the river
  • Wear life jacket at all times
  • Be able to kneel to paddle through rapids
  • Read and sign a release form (requires Acrobat Reader Get Free), or have one signed by a parent or legally responsible adult
  • If under 18, be accompanied by a parent or legally responsible adult.

While we have no control over the use of alcohol on the river, we strongly encourage moderation or abstinence. Misuse of alcohol is a major factor in water-related accidents. We will not permit intoxicated persons to begin a trip.

River trips do not occur if the water level is too high or too low.   Rappahannock River trips run at levels between 2.9 feet and 5 feet on the Remington gauge.  Rapidan River trips run at levels between 0.8 feet and 4 feet on the Culpeper gauge.  For information on current river levels, go to Real-Time Data for Virginia Stream Flow or Sterling Forecast Page.   You can also call (703) 260-0107 for daily river level reports.

Camping

The campground is conveniently located near the famous Civil War Battlefields of Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Fredericksburg, several vineyards, and some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the state.

We offer 45 primitive campsites on 46 acres bordering the beautiful Rappahannock River. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and stone-ringed campfire pit. The cost to camp per night is $8.50 per person or $27.00 per family (parents with children under 18) for wooded sites and $10.50 per person or $33.00 per family for sites near and on the river. Minimum cost is based on two people per site.  Children 2 years old and under are free.  Special rate of $5.00 per person for scouts in the wooded sites.

The camp store has camping, canoeing, and fishing supplies for sale or rent. Firewood and Ice are also available. Hot showers are centrally located for your convenience. Other amenities include a stocked pond, volleyball, horseshoes, and short hiking trails.

Pets are permitted at $5.00 each per night. All pets require a leash and may not be left unattended.

In an attempt to be a family friendly campground and due to problems experienced in the past, we now have a no alcohol policy.

Sorry, we do not have the facilities for RV's or motor homes and do not allow long-term camping.

To enhance the primitive atmosphere and to respect the rights of other campers, no radios are allowed.

Reservations

Reservations are guaranteed only by prepayment.  During peak season (May 15 thru July 4th weekend), river activity reservations require a 10% down payment and full payment three weeks prior to your trip.  Prepayment is not required for camping reservations in the wooded sites except on holiday weekends. Prepayment is required on all river sites, and there is a two-night minimum on weekends. Cash, checks,  MasterCard and Visa are accepted for reservations and rentals.

Cancellations

In order to receive a refund on prepaid reservations, cancellations must be made 10 days in advance. Tube, canoe, and kayak trips occur regardless of weather conditions, with low and high water being the sole exceptions. We’re good, but we can’t guarantee sunshine or the perfect water level!  If we must cancel due to inclement weather or poor water level, a rain-check will be issued for use during the  2008 season.
